Field Trip: The Bus Station

Today we toured the Everett Bus Station and then rode the bus.  There is nothing like singing The Wheels on the Bus while riding the bus with 15 kids.  The Bus station was beautiful and interesting.  They have some great art in there.  Sometime we'll have to go back and do the ship scavenger hunt.  There are metal relief type sculptures of several dozen Port of Everett ships, past and present, throughout the Bus Station.  The floor is a map of the Everett bodies of water.  Very Cool!  I think the kids favorite things were the Matchbox Cars replicas of an Everett Bus that they each got to take home.

We went to a park afterwards but didn't stay long - we were all freezing!  LaDonna got more/better pictures and I'm sure she'll post them soon.

Edited to add the cute buses that they gave the kids...

January Library Day

Sorry, no pictures for this one.  Our photographer was home with sick kids and no one else remembered a camera.

We started with an inspiring lesson from Rachel on music and dancing.  She showed the kids a clip from the old Classic, Singing in the Rain.  It was the "Make Em Laugh" number and the kids loved it.

After our opening (prayer, song, pledge) we read The Hello, Goodbye Window by Norton Juster and Chris Raschka and had a fun discussion while we read.  Some of the kids shared things with us that they were excited about.  Especially interesting were Sam's home grown crystals.  Wish we had a picture of them to put here (hint, hint, Andrea;).

Next was stations.  We colored valentine's that we will be delivering to the rest home we visited at Christmas Time.  We also played a memory game.

At the end, Rachel talked to the kids about music and had Andrea show and play her violin.  Rachel talked with them about how the violin sounds and then told them to listen and see if they could hear the violins in a piece of music she shared with them.    Finally, she got them all dancing "Make em Laugh" style.  They had the best time and it was hilarious to watch.

Field Trip: Central Market Grocery Store

Rachel arranged for us to have a tour of the Mill Creek Central Market Grocery Store.  I think this will be remembered as one of our favorite field trips.  The staff at Central Market was so friendly, helpful and welcoming to our squirrely little group.  I'm a big fan of their beautiful produce displays and amazing inventory - if you can't find it at Central Market, good luck.  After eating some lunch (we we're all starving after the tantalizing tour!), we went to the library across the street.  I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.  LaDonna took some more pictures and I'm sure she'll add them.
